MERRY CHRISTMAS
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Christmas is a celebration of such a unique event in human history. God arrived on this planet as a man, not as an adult man, but as an infant. That was just the beginning of a mission that would include His crucifixion and His resurrection, all to give man the opportunity to live with Him eternally. How does one really celebrate such an event? Everything seems inadequate. More than our celebrations, Jesus desires that we simply follow Him. May you experience Christ’s love this season.
Christmas here is a bit different. Most people celebrate New Years as the main holiday of the year. Russian Christmas actually comes on January 7th. We will gather as a Missionary team on Christmas Eve for an evening meal along with some fun activities, singing and praying together. Christmas day each family will celebrate together at home. Most of us will probably celebrate New Years with Russian friends.
VISA TRIP
I sent out a request for prayer concerning my visa trip to Madrid and for the visa situation in general. I received a three-month visa from the embassy in Madrid in only 45 minutes! The visa situation here still continues to be unsettled. We are hoping to receive work-visas, which will allow us to stay in country for a year at a time. Thank you for continuing to pray for that situation. I have posted a slide show of a few pictures from Madrid on my blog.
JUST CLOWNING AROUND
Sergei Kvak is an associate pastor at one of the churches we partner with. The pay isn’t much, but he is pretty dedicated to the job. To help support himself, he has decided to do birthday parties as a clown. He has done these in the past and has demonstrated a real talent for it. Through your giving to my work special, we were able to help him purchase some costumes and other equipment for setting up the business. He will work with two other people in the business. It may take a little while to establish the business, but there is a lot of opportunities for this kind of business here in Russia. I am including his picture here, but unfortunately, I don’t have one of him in costume, yet. When I do, I will put it one the blog.
Another associate pastor,(Zhenya Kyzmenko), at another church is working on a wedding picture business. He has experience and some contacts with people who do videos of weddings. They have invited him to work together. Some of his equipment needed upgrading. Your support of my work special was vital in helping Zhenya as well. It really means a lot to these guys, thanks.
